Stanislav Mankov (Bulgaria)

My name is Stanislav Mihaylov Mankov and I am a fly angler, guide and an online fly tackle shop owner.
I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1988. Fishing is an inseparable part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started flyfishing when I was 15 and that is the only fishing I do since then. I fish mainly for salmonides but have fished for other species like pike, asp, chub ect…

I have graduated in 2011 and have Honorable Bachelor degree in Wildlife Biology in Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England. There I also learn a lot about fly fishing in still water and met great friends & person such as Charles.

In 2015 I finished my master`s degree in Alternative International Tourism in New Bulgarian University, Sofia, Bulgaria. I am currently living in Bulgaria and on water all around, fresh & salt more than 150 days a year.

Fly Tying
I am into fly tying as well and have been tying my own flies since the very beginning. I like to discover new flies and to experiment with new materials and techniques. When I have time I like to tie semi-realistic flies. I took part in a few fairs in Germany, England, Denmark, Finland, Holland, Ireland and of course Bulgaria. I have the desire to attend fairs and shows all around the globe.

Favorite flies – emergers and tiny grayling nymph patterns.

Casting
Casting with fly rod for me is also one of the things without fly fishing would not be the same and I take it very seriously. I think of it as something where you can strive for improvement all your life and I dedicate a lot towards that effort. Since October 2011 I am qualified as an Advance AAPGAI game angling instructor for single rod techniques. Since 27. October 2012 I am qualified for EFFA as a basic instructor after I passed an exam held in Hohenem- Austria.

As an AAPGAI full member I have passed an Emergency First Aid at Work Course.

Competitions
I have competed for the Bulgarian fishing club “Old Otters” since 2005. I have been in the national team for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018.
I won the Republican Championship of Bulgaria Individually 5 times – 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013 & 2017.  Came second with my team in 2005, 2006 and 2008. In 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2017 we were champions.
I have participated in four European and four World Championships – Slovenia `06; Norway `07; New Zealand `08; Scotland `09; Bosnia and Herzegovina- `10; Slovakia `13; Bosnia and Herzegovina 15 and Slovakia `17. Most of my international tournaments have been individual.
My best individual achievement so far has been at the World Championship in 2015 where I had a chance to win the first place but lost the fish that could have brought me the gold medal in the last session on the lake. Then I blanked and finished 15 in the world.

One of my dreams came true when we as Team Bulgaria represented the country for first time in the history of World Fly Fishing Chamoionships in 2017 and finished 7 th in the team Ranking out of 31 teams. I was proud to be the captain of the team.

I have taken part in other international challenges, like the International Grayling competition on river Dee in Wells, Orvis Cup in Prague, Hanak competition and other.

For 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 I organize the National Championship in Bulgaria. I am aiming to select a good team to represent the country internationally.

Fishing & guiding
I like to explore new and exciting places for fishing. I have fished in Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Greece, Bosnia, Norway, England, Wales, Scotland, Denmark, New Zealand and Seychelles.

I organize trips and fishing holidays in all Balkan countries and some hosted trips abroad.

I was born 1958 in Wuppertal and growing up in Düsseldorf. Since 1998 I live in Hilden (next to Düsseldorf).
I´m a fisherman since my childhood, but I started flyfishing and tying at the age of 38.
Around two years later I was tying on my first big flyfishing show, the Dutch Fly Fair.
Since this time, I´m tying my flies on shows in Europe and USA.
My favorite patterns are squidflies and shrimps.

Thé Ørgänizátiøn has been very busy for quite a while with the organization of the next Fly Fair which is planned for Saturday May 9 and Sunday May 10, 2020. Many of you, both visitors and participants, will still have fond memories of the Fly Fair 2018 and together with you we want to make the Fly Fair 2020 a great or even greater success again.

Never change a winning team. The general set up of the Fly Fair event will be mostly unchanged. For the venue we have opted for "Forelvisvijvers de Berenkuil",  Berencamperweg 11, in Putten the Netherlands. This beautiful venue can be reached easily by car (A28 motorway exit 9).

At the Fly Fair every flyfisher will find whatever his life style requires. Fly casting and fly dressing material, for every kind of fish be it alver or salmon, and all the hooks and clothes one may dream of from size 36 upwards. There will be plenty of opportunities to be informed about the available industrial and technological fly fishing gadgets and to admire the amazing craftsmanship of the semi-professional fly tiers specially invited to show their handiwork.

And if you are bored with your current holiday destinations, you will be able to explore new possibilities ranging from Putten to Patagonia. Hence our motto: The World of Flyfishing.

A lot of attention is paid to the Fly Fair 2020 in our magazine "de Nederlandse Vliegvisser". This magazine is sent to more than 4,000 members and is recognized as one of the most outstanding flyfishing magazines in Europe. And as a special offer, participating firms will be offered free advertising space in the spring edition. In addition, booth keepers will be put in the spotlight in various digital means of communication such De Digitale Vliegvisser, newsletters, websites and Facebook pages.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Fly Fair 2020 en we hope to realize a big event for and by flyfishers. The fair will consist of a complete village of pagodas (25 m2 each) and a large light canvas hall for the fly tiers. Even if the terrain is extensive, we have to warn you in advance that the number of pagodas will be limited. In case you wish to participate, please contact Jan Huisman: huisman.jan@ziggo.nl He will send you an information package, including a reservation form.

The Dutch Fly Fair of 2018 was a big success. We're already preparing the next edition. Of course this event can’t be held without fly tiers! Like last year we hope to meet a lot of them.

On behalf of the organization I’ll be coordinating the fly tying part. Main goal is to organize an amazing event that will be interesting for fly tiers and visitors. If you have any suggestions or questions don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or e-mail: jos@homus.nl.

Kind Regards,

Jos Herrebrugh
